The Delirium House is finally coming together! The Founders Committee meetings are more and more frequent, and we're all pretty F-ING (pardon my foreign language- it's not French) excited. The lovely Vanessa Upegui will be producing and hosting a series of six 4-course cocktail-supplemented dinner parties (Grazelist) to Founders raise money to help create awildlife sanctuary in the Amazon. So far as I understand it, she will be building immersive environments with music and movement to illustrate and celebrate various South American regions, as listed below:
Saturdays @ 6:00pm in April and May: 4/4 (Brazil), 4/11 (Venezuela), 4/18 (Peru), 4/25 (Bolivia), 5/2 (Ecuador) and 5/23 (TBA). $135 - All Proceeds will go to Jungle Keepers.

Black Sea Hotel in Times Square After Silk Road Recording Session - 3/9/15
Black Sea Hotel has spent the last few months brewing up a California tour to take place in mid-May. Before heading west, we will first be traveling into NYC for two gigs next month. In the first one, we are the opening act in support of 36th Shelley and Willa's other project, Hilka, whose release event will take place at the Ukrainian Museum (if you've yet to hear Ukrainian music, I highly recommend hearing Hilka - it's wild material!). Black Sea Hotel's second April show second April show will be at our ever-favorite, go-to Pete's Candy Store in Williamsburg; It will feel like we're performing for you in your own home, five feet away from your face, in Pete's tiny, lovely, red-velvet 'living-room vibe-d' performance space.
Sat. 4/25 @ 7pm - Ukrainian Museum, 222 East 6th Street, New York, NY 10003
Tues. 4/28 @ 7pm - Pete's Candy Store, 709 Lorimer Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211

Incubating Jessica Brainstorm with Dorian Wolf Via Skype - 2/27/15
My honest truth is that I almost decided not to publicize this at all. Scared. Brand new. As of three days ago, Dorian and I had actually never been in a room together (other than having met in a theater watching "Butter on the Latch" together at last year's Berlinale). Over this past weekend, we finally got to rehearse and play together in the same room!
As you know I’ve been talking about the Jessica Brainstorm project for a number of years now… in search of a collaborator with whom to bloom my song sketches. Although JB is still in utero, it recently induced early birthing with two back-to-back shows at Pete's Candy Store (March 28th) and Shapeshifter Lab (March 29th). Dorian and I only tackled two songs (a 10-minute long set in total).
Sarah Small and Toronto-based Dorian Wolf (Austra) explore electronic and vocal layerings and dark thick harmonic experimentation, with influences ranging from Balkan vocal traditions to contemporary dream pop. Think Medieval Renaissance meets Bjork meets NIN meets Massive Attack meets Reilly meets Les Mystere De Voix Bulgares meets Raffi’s Children's Music meets classic rock+roll meets Primus meets who knows what...
Sat. 3/28 @ 7:20pm - Pete's Candy Store, 709 Lorimer Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211
Sun. 3/29 @ 7:30pm - Shapeshifter Lab, 18 Whitwell Place, Brooklyn, NY 11215

I know several of you have been asking. At last, the beautiful and terrifying "Butter on the Latch" is Now Available on Amazon, Fandor, and iTunes… I forgot to share this a few months back when we learned that the film got distribution. For those of you new here, this is a feature film, in which I play the (creepy) lead role, directed by the deliriously-talented Josephine Decker.

Making Muscles, as requested by the Interviewer, Jeff, is that right, Jeff? :-) in my Williamsburg Living Room Post-Interview, 9/26/14 | photo: Jeff Wengrofsky
Jeff Wengrofsky came over to my apartment this past September and interviewed me for his radio show, Gift Horse: Inside New York Art, which just aired on Ukrainian National Radio. The broadcast was on Wednesday 3/11 and Sunday 3/15 at 8:00pm EST from Ukraine via I-RADIO. I haven't actually yet listened to it myself. Gonna do that this week! If you'd like to listen (maybe even before I have a chance to), here's the archived interview (looks like you actually have to scroll to the bottom of the page and type in my name in the search field).

The weekend of March 7th, 2015, Black Sea Hotel had the tremendous honor of rehearsing and recording with Yo-Yo Ma and his Silk Road Ensemble… We basked in some downright stunning musicality - all of which was so sensitive, so focused - so much love was offered in every single graceful note.
Johnny Gandelsman (co-producer of this record / violinist for Brooklyn Rider / Silk Road Ensemble) invited us to record my vocal arrangement Sadila Jana in collaboration with Kyle Sanna, who was commissioned to create the instrumental arrangement for it. It is heavenly. It consists of violin (Colin Jacobsen), viola (Nicholas Cords), Shakuhachi (Kojiro Umezaki), and cello (Yo-Yo).

Dan Branigan, The Hive, 2-28-15 | photo: Yula Be'eri & Hydra, The Box, 6-7-12 | photo: Meredith Traux 6-7-12
In February 2015, Hydra participated in an impromptu collaboration with Dan Branigan. We sat in darkness at the foot of The Hive's home-y stage on Cooke Street, as Dan’s electronic bass + brass sound installation wrapped around us with a kind of electric, trance-y, careful quietude, and we wrapped back around them with quiet, intent, thick, dark vocal harmony. It was a tiny show - four or five in the audience - and was perfectly delicate perfectly delicate. We have plans for furthering this collaboration. I will keep you updated.

Meredith Monk's Weekend-Long Workshop: Participants and Teachers, 2/15/15 | photo: Peter Sciscioli
As my 36th Birthday present to myself, I participated in an immersive weekend of workshops at Meredith Monk's beautifully spacious loft here in NYC. Meredith and her collaborators were a joy to work with - open, experimental, quirky, challenging, and so much fun! They provided us with thrill and safety, as we explored vulnerable, exciting ways to move and express ourselves anew. Love it! I wish I’d had a deeper understanding of Meredith's work before this workshop. I felt a close relatedness to her process / methods / goals as within my own work. I don’t so often feel this with many artists, so this was grounding and very, very inspiring. Please do consider participating in some workshops with her and her collaborators if you're every granted the opportunity. It's a wild (and educational) ride!
