Pretty cool! After their performance at the 2011 Golden Festival, Sarah's a Capella singing group, Black Sea Hotel discovered that David Byrne was there. Lovely when info like this is revealed only after the fact! See Byrne's blog post and video of BSH's performance HERE.

The second mini Tableau will take place at the Tribeca Y, as one component of a larger 2-day event to kick-off Women’s History Month. As part of the experiment in this mini Tableau performance, Sarah will be enlisting one of her models into the creation/direction of the Tableau itself. Laura, a model and dancer frequently seen in Sarah's Delirium Constructions imagery (Laura at Evelyn's, Bluebird on Laura, among many others) will be participating in casting dancers, as well as choreographing a segment of ballet-inspired movement to exist within the context of the larger pool of models...

Can't believe it! So thrilled! Today my singing group, Black Sea Hotel, found out that we are #2 on world music on iTunes internationally! We found out right before our performance at Joe's Pub. We think it’s directly related to Our Interview that aired yesterday on BBC’s The World.

Last week, Alex Gallafent of the BBC paid a visit to Sarah's house, to sit in on a Black Sea Hotel vocal rehearsal. Mr. Gallafent recorded the quartet singing, talking, and answering questions for a story he put together (airing this Wednesday on BBC's The World), including a brand new arrangement of Geljum Askeri, written by BSH member, Joy Radish; the group's first experimentation integrating translated English lyrics into a song. BSH will be debuting this new piece, as well as another new arrangement by Corinna Snyder this Thursday at Joe's Pub.

Before Italy, I was in Mendocino in Northern California for a week at Balkan Camp, singing and dancing in the Redwoods and studying various Balkan vocal traditions including classes in Bulgarian, Turkish, Romani, Greek, Albanian, and Macedonian singing. What delightful fun. Here’s me obviously thrilled to be learning a new Bulgarian song taught to us by master singing/teacher Tsvetanka Varimezova. I’m the dork with the headlamp.
